Our Why
At Hensler Family Farm, we believe there’s nothing better than family—and nothing quite like the lessons learned working side by side in the field. From problem solving in the heat of harvest to the dedication it takes to plant, grow, and care for the land, the farm has always been more than a place—it’s been our classroom, our gathering space, and our legacy. Today, we’re proud to see the 7th generation walking the same fields their great-great-great-great-grandparents once did, continuing a tradition rooted in hard work, resilience, and love for the land and each other.

Our history
In 1874, August Rau settled in Freeland, Michigan. Years later, on October 28, 1901, his daughter Emma married John Hensler, and together they took over the family farm. They went on to raise 11 children and lay the foundation for a lasting legacy. For over 150 years—and counting—the farm has remained in the Hensler family, a testament to generations of hard work, dedication, and tradition.
